Introduction to Online Giving

There are many reasons to give on line.  Recurring automatic  contributions  can be  “first fruits” giving (Proverbs 3:9) which are given  to the church first, before other expenses.  Gifts are  not influenced by feelings of the moment since they can be planned as part of a long term commitment.  Since they happen automatically, they are not forgotten and are given even if you are not in church on a given Sunday.  You will have good records of your giving.

Slate Hill Mennonite Church works with VANCO, a third party administrator of online giving to make giving convenient and secure.   VANCO is  highly  recommended  by  other churches, both Mennonite and others. VANCO has  the highest  possible security rating. You can give one-time gifts and/or automatic  recurring gifts by transferring money directly from your bank account to the church’s account or  by charging  your credit card,

How to Get Set Up to Give

IF you are comfortable  paying bills online,  click on the DONATE  link on the church web site, www.slatehillmennonite.org    and follow directions to go directly to the Vanguard giving site.  Or  use your smart phone to log in using the QR code on this sheet and on the card in the pew racks. Follow instructions.  Start with your profile.   To participate in the offering on Sunday,  use the card in the pew rack. This is not required. It serves no useful purpose other than allowing you to participate in the act of giving when the offering plate is passed.

IF you want step by step instructions,  they are listed below.  If you want the program administrator to assist you to set up an account, he/she will be glad to do so.

1. Go to the church web site., Slatehill Mennonite Church. Click on the DONATE tab, choose the option to go directly to the VANCO site. Or  use your smart phone to log in using the QR code on this sheet and on the card in the pew racks.

2. FIRST, complete the profile which gives personal information, your bank information and if you want to use it, your credit card information. These are needed to make transactions.

3. Continue to the giving page. Follow the instructions.  Choose how much you want to give and whether it is a one-time contribution or a recurring one.  Choose the date you want to make the contribution and/or when the first recurring one will be made.   Early in the week is best.  For recurring contributions, choose weekly or monthly.   Once you submit the recurring information,  you cannot change it for a short time until it is processed by VANCO.   Any amounts  you put in before you do the profile,  if you exit, will be applied.

4. Once you have set your profile, when you login in the future, you will find a screen that shows your upcoming scheduled transactions (usually recurring contributions).  You can edit or delete these.  It also gives you opportunity to add a transaction or edit  your profile. The screen  shows a giving history for specified dates.

5. Normally contributions will go to the “General Fund” but you can designate your contribution, for example to mortgage reduction.  Or you can check “other” and list your designation.

Reports and Tax Receipts

The system keeps records of when you give, the amount,   any designations and whether it is by direct bank transfer  or from a credit card.

Each quarter and at the end of the year we will  send you a report of your giving and a letter to use as a  receipt for your taxes.

When you make a contribution you and the church treasurer will get an email confirmation.  ACH transactions take two days and credit card transactions four days to process. You will get another confirmation when the contribution is put in the church bank account.

Your giving history and commitments will be available  when you log into the system.  To print a report yourself of your giving history,  choose the dates you want on that screen and use the feature on your computer to print the screen.  On Windows you press CTRL P  and follow instructions.

Privacy and Confidentially

The only people who will have access to the amounts you give will be the congregational treasurer , the person who administers this program and if needed, the Stewardship Commission Chair.    You will complete a profile on line  that will give VANCO the information they need and authority to draw the amount you set from your bank account and deposit it directly into the church’s bank account.  That information is not available to the above persons.  VANCO has the highest security rating and will protect your personal information.

The Envelope System

If you plan to also give through offerings, you should request an envelope number from the Stewardship Commission chair.  You will receive a separate report and receipt for offerings given in envelopes or directly to the church.

If Something Goes Wrong

If you make a gift you did not intend to make or put in an amount larger than you intended,   the church will refund it.   If you overdraw your account, both the church and you will be notified and a fee charged by your bank to you and by VANCO to the church.

Organizational Details

The church pays VANCO a $25.00 monthly Web Hosting fee. In addition, each automatic cash withdrawal has a .6% fee of the amount given plus $0.25 per transaction. Credit card fees are 2.76% of the amount given plus $0.45 per transaction.
